10 Fall Fitness Tips

The color of the leaves show me that the fall season is alive and well. But so are we, and we should take full advantage of that.

One fall fitness tip that I have is to take advantage of the weather. This is the perfect time of the year for walking or cycling. Park trails and hiking areas allow for not only physical activity but beautiful scenery.

A second fall fitness tip is to look into signing up for a Zumba or aerobics class. Or try something adventurous like a dance class.

A third fall fitness tip is to involve the entire family. Raking leaves together not only builds bonds but provides a great form of exercise.

A fourth fall fitness tip is to take advantage of opportunities to walk when you can. Take the stairs instead of the escalator. Park your car at the furthest end of the parking lot.

A fifth fall fitness tip is exercise when watching television. Put the treadmill in front of the set or take advantage of commercials to get in some crunches or pushups.

A sixth fall fitness tip is to get up earlier in the morning to squeeze in some exercise. Granted, it’s darker and colder in the mornings but you will feel energized and ready to face your day after exercising.

A seventh fall fitness tip is to dress in layers when outdoors. In the beginning you will be chilled when you walk but as your body moves, it warms up. So make sure you can easily shed extra clothing.

An eighth fall fitness tip is to challenge yourself. Go beyond the typical goal-setting and give yourself something to really strive for.

A ninth fall fitness tip is to plan your menu for the week. This will help avoid eating less healthy choices because you are buying food items last minute.

Lastly, remember it takes 30 days to build a habit. Start now so that by the time the holidays roll around, you will have a fitness regime going.
