Becoming a Product Reviewer, Part 3 (The Media Kit)

Once you get going on reviewing products you will want to create a media kit. This is a simple outline of your blog and your blog statistics that you give to companies who are interested in having you conduct a review. The information contained is the common information companies ask for so it makes it convenient for you to already have it on hand. In addition, it also makes you look more serious and professional about your role as a product reviewer.

What goes into a Media Kit?

About Section:

In this section you will briefly describe your blog, accomplishments, and possibly a mission statement. You can also include when you began blogging and why.

Advertising Section:

In this section you will explain why your blog is a good choice for advertising. You will also want to give the ad space available and the cost.

Audience Section:

Demographics are an important consideration to companies. They want to be sure you are a good fit for them. Companies chose bloggers who reach their target audience. To help a company decide that your blog is the right place you need to include demographics of your readers. You can gather this information by simply conducting a survey on your blog. Companies are seeking who is reading your blog, moms, dads, single parents, single people, grandparents, etc. You will want to include median age range, children, income, etc.

Statistics Section:

Statistics along with demographics are very important to a potential company. In this section you simple rundown your statistics such as:

Number of followers

Number of monthly views

Number of page views

Google Analytics

Number of Facebook Likes

Number of Twitter Followers

Any other social media sites and number of friends or followers.

Number of feed subscribers

Google Page Rank

Technorati Rank

Alexa Ranking

If you do not know your ranking it is important to get the information and keep track of it. It is also acceptable to only include followers, page views and monthly views if your rankings are low.

Product Reviews and Giveaways Section:

Explain briefly how you conduct product reviews. You will want to include here that you do not guarantee positive reviews and that you do not ship back items or pay for items you give a negative review about. Give number of links you are willing to put in your post. Give an approximate time frame for posting reviews. You will also want to include if you will do a giveaway and what you require for a giveaway. Also include how you notify companies of the review going live and winners of giveaways, etc.
