Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. I am already thinking of fun ways to celebrate it with my family. My husband isn’t the only benefactor when it comes to this holiday of “love.” My children are as well.
While I express love to my children on a daily basis (most of the time), I appreciate the opportunity to set aside a day where a concentrated effort is made to show how much I love them. Despite my children being teens, they still enjoy it.
If you haven’t been able to come up with ideas on how to make this holiday special for your teens, maybe some of the things I do will spark new ideas. And if you have any to share, I would love to hear them.
One of the things I always do is purchase them a card. It is a special opportunity in which I get to express exactly how I feel. Because let’s face it…not only does daily life manage to get in the way of that, but the sometimes challenging moments of raising teens does as well.
In addition to a card, I also give them their favorite candy. They will probably never tire of sweets (I know I haven’t).
In addition, I come up with a meal or some food item that is fun. Last year I purchased the heart-
sized pizza that Papa Murphy’s sells. This year I plan on baking a heart-shaped cake, complete with fresh raspberries around the border.
None of my ideas are over-the-top or anything spectacular. They are really quite simple. But I know that they mean a lot to my children. They appreciate the fact that I am acknowledging them on this day and that they are never too old for fun holidays such as this.
Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to express your love for your teens. Make the most of it.
