Chick-fil-A War Continues

To eat at Chick-fil-A or not? Suddenly, THAT is the question.

The whole outrage against or support for (depending on your views) Chick-fil-A thing continues. The whole thing started when Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told Baptist Press in an interview that the company is against gay marriage.

Naturally, that made some celebs (Ed Helms being the latest to voice his opinion) call for a boycott. Several LGBT groups also called for boycotts. Philadelphia City Councilman James Kenney said, “There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly and Sisterly Affection.” Boston Mayor Thomas Menino also said Chick-fil-A was not welcome in his city due to the company’s views.

On the opposite side, Billy Graham, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, and the mayor of NYC, Michael Bloomberg is supporting Chick-fil-A. Bloomberg, in response to Menino’s statement, said, “You can’t have a test for what the owners’ personal views are before you decide to give a permit to do something in the city.” Mayor Bloomberg went on to say, “You really don’t want to ask political beliefs or religious beliefs before you issue a permit. That’s just not government’s job.” Menino has since said that he doesn’t have the authority to block the fast food chain from coming to Boston.

I expect to walk into a Chick-fil-A any day now and see a fist fight break out between customers. When did chicken become a deciding factor in gay rights?

All I know is that Chick-fil-A produces a good, tasty product that is a healthier alternative to many fast food restaurants. The employees are always pleasant and courteous to me. And Cathy and his entire company have the right to their opinions. I have to agree with something I read on CNN by an iReporter, Byron Thomas of Beaufort, South Carolina. He said, “No American can say anything these days without someone getting offended. If I don’t want my rights of Free Speech taken away, then I’m not going to try to take someone else’s rights away.”

So should you eat there or not? That is a decision that should only be made by you and no one else.
