If you plan to practice yoga at home during your pregnancy, you will need a prenatal yoga DVD. The DVD you choose is largely a matter of preference. There are so many on the market that it can be confusing to choose one. If possible borrow one or two from friends, the library or rent one at the video store to try it out.
I am going to review a few prenatal yoga DVDs in this blog. They can all be purchased online through Amazon.com. By clicking on the title of each DVD, you can view the DVD, read the product descriptions and other reviews. This will give you an idea of what is out there and help you make a choice.
When I was pregnant with my last baby, I practiced yoga at home. I used Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea. This DVD has poses modified for each trimester of your pregnancy. You just follow the woman who is in the same trimester when doing the poses. I found it very helpful for knowing which poses are safe to use and how to properly modify the poses as my baby grew.
Crunch Yoga Mama also helps with modifications. The instructor is a pregnant woman teaching a class of pregnant women. There are women of all stages of pregnancy to help demonstrate the poses. I have not used this DVD personally, but I own another Crunch yoga DVD and I really like that one. Yoga Mama focuses on breathing, flexibility and the mother baby connection.
Pre and Post Natal Yoga by Yoga.com offers an additional benefit in that it has a section for after the baby is born. Even while still pregnant, women worry about postpartum weight loss. This all in one DVD will allow you to continue a gentle work out after the baby is born and your body is healing.
