What if you could control your life like you do your VCR? If you could put the rest of the world on pause for a few minutes, or fast forward through an unplesant event would you?
I know I wish I could put my life on pause sometimes, just so I can take a break for just a little while without feeling like I’m missing something I should be at, or something I should be doing.
In the movie “Click” Michael Newman, played by Adam Sandler is given a universal remote that is in fact universal, allowing him to pause, mute and fast-forward at his discretion.
Where would one get such a remote you may ask? Bed Bath and Beyond of course! While on a shopping trip in the store Michael walks in a door marked “Way Beyond” and meets Morty (Christopher Walken) who gives him the remote. I know I’m going to be on the lookout the next time I go shopping there!
Michael, who is father and architect was feeling a lot of pressure from his wife and his life, and decides to use the remote to help ease the pain. By the end of the movie he realizes however that by muting his wife and fast forwarding through events he’s missing out on some of the important parts of his life. The movie sends the message that even though we may not necessarily like what’s going on around us, experiencing it is a huge part of our lives.
Despite a pretty good premise, this overall was a pretty bad movie. There is a good deal of sexual references, as well as some crude jokes and drug references. I would be reluctant to take any child under thirteen to see the movie, and chances are children over thirteen aren’t going to think the movie is very funny.
If anyone finds this “Way Beyond” section at Bed Bath and Beyond let me know.
