Or, for a traditional fever.
My 5-year-old is currently battling a fever, strep throat and swollen sinuses, and the activity that I’m sharing with you today has proven to be just as effective in cheering her up, as it would for kids suffering from cabin fever.
After all, nothing beats the winter blues like a cupcake. And if that cupcake is in the shape of an adorable polar bear, then all the better. The following kid-friendly kitchen project is ideal for housebound children, who are going stir-crazy, and for parents looking to preserve their sanity:
POLAR BEAR CUPCAKES
Ingredients:
Vanilla cupcakes (You need one regular-size cupcake and one mini one for the Mama polar bear and one miniature cupcake for the baby polar bear)
White frosting
Shredded coconut
3 large and 2 small white gumdrops (per polar bear pair)
2 Junior Mint Candies (per polar bear pair)
Chocolate chips–4 regular-size and 4 miniature (per polar bear pair)
Directions:
Frost the top, sides, and bottoms of one regular-size cupcake and a mini cupcake with white frosting. (Tip: Frost the bottom of the cupcake first, and then stick a fork into the bottom of the cupcake while you frost the rest of it.)
Roll the cupcakes in shredded coconut, then set the cupcakes on their sides on wax paper with the top of the smaller cupcake stuck to the bottom of the larger one to form the bear’s head.
Slice a large white gumdrop in half for ears. Use one Junior Mint candy for a nose, and two chocolate chips for eyes.
For each cub, frost a mini cupcake and a large gumdrop, then roll them in coconut and arrange them on their sides. Add two slices from a small white gumdrop for ears, a chocolate chip for a nose, and two mini chocolate chip eyes.
