Although some people enjoy the outdoors even when it’s cold, others (such as me) don’t. I live in Wisconsin, so the winds can be biting and the temperatures can be downright intolerable.
This is often when fitness can take a backseat. We let the colder months deter us from continuing a fit lifestyle. So we have to purpose and make a plan for what we can do during the next several months.
If you own a treadmill, try dusting it off. Then move it to a place where you are more likely to use it. Don’t want to miss your favorite television show? Then place the treadmill right in front of your TV. This way you get the best of both worlds.
Speaking of television, you can still watch it and squeeze in some exercise. Lift some weights, run in place, jump rope, do some crunches. There are so many different types of exercises that can be done right in the comfort of your home.
How about combining three activities at once by cleaning your house, dancing and burning calories? Pick a day where you are going to clean your house from top to bottom. Then pop in your favorite CD (turn it up loud) and have some fun dancing while you clean. At the same time you are burning calories.
This would be a fun activity to do when you are setting up the Christmas tree or other decorations for the upcoming holidays. Make it fun and turn it into a workout.
There are so many ways you can keep up a fitness routine during these colder months. Don’t let anything stop you from moving forward. During the holidays is when most of us struggle but you can overcome it.
In fact, this is the best time to actually begin a fitness routine if you haven’t already. This may prevent you from gaining any extra weight with the upcoming holidays.
The weather may end up being frightful, but fitness can still be delightful.
