Lately I have been thinking a lot about spring. I am thinking about sunshine and warmth. I am thinking about those walks I love to take.
For some reason the thought of warmer days seems more motivating when it comes to exercise. The long, cold, dreary days of winter can cause the coach potato in all of us to seep in.
I seem to have more time for movies and TV shows during the winter. Actually, it’s because I’m not a winter person. I don’t enjoy the cold and I certainly don’t enjoy the snow, despite living in a state where most of winter is spent shoveling out.
If you live in one of the colder states, you might find it easy to use winter as an excuse to take a break from fitness. Your thought may be, “I can start again in spring.” But if you take a break now, you will make the work much harder come the warmer months.
Think of winter as a way to get a jumpstart. Your goal can be much shorter (less weight to lose for instance), if you don’t use winter as an excuse to not exercise.
It takes just one day…hear me out here, just a single day to bring out the coach potato in you. You make that decision to skip one day of exercise and before you know it, it quickly turns into another day, and then another.
Believe me; I know how easy this can be…especially when you have several inches or feet of snow. Who wants to do anything physical when the idea of wrapping yourself under a blanket and indulging in a hot cup of cocoa is so much more appealing?
Give yourself those moments, too. But don’t let them overtake you. Don’t let winter become your excuse to give up.
