Dymatize Elite Whey Protein Isolate, Gourmet Vanilla Flavor

Dymatize Elite Whey Protein Isolate, Gourmet Vanilla Flavor

One of the key tenets of the Eating-for-Life part of the Body-for-Life program is the fact that you must eat six meals per day. Now, I’m not talking about crazy amounts of meat and potatoes every meal. Most people on Body-for-Life, myself included, have three whole food meals per day and three snacks of meal replacement drinks or bars.

Because of that, whey protein is a staple in my home. It is quick to prepare and consume and has all the right ingredients so there is absolutely no thought necessary in the entire process. In fact, I like to make up a bottle of whey protein shake every morning so that whenever I need it, it just needs a quick shake and pour.

I usually do my shopping online through DPS Nutrition and a great benefit of doing that is that they often tuck samples of products into the shipping boxes of orders. I’m always up to trying a free sample!

I recently received a sample of Elite Whey Protein Isolate made by Dymatize. The package claims that it is perfect for carb watchers (that’s me), mixes instantly (convenient) and is aspartame free (aspartame tends to stall my weight loss efforts). Given all of that, I was looking forward to a great product.

When I opened the package, I gave it a sniff. It smelled like graham crackers so I was pretty enthusiastic about trying it. When I added it to water and put it in my mixer, I was sorely disappointed. Mind you, I didn’t just use a shaker bottle. I used the Farberware mixer that my husband usually makes blizzards in! This is a serious drink mixer that usually delivers a frappe in seconds. I only mixed the powder with water and gave it a good 30 seconds in the mixer. When I pulled it out and took a gulp, I had lumps. I gave it another minute in the mixer and still had lumps. Now, maybe I had an old sample but I’ve never seen old whey powder do this in a heavy duty mixer. As for the flavor, lumps aside, it wasn’t very tasty. The smell was definitely better than the flavor.

After this experience, I can not recommend this product.
