Expedition Everest Attraction Spawns Everest Desserts

You might think that Expedition Everest’s “charm” remains solely within the Animal Kingdom theme park. However, Disney chefs – incidentally some of the most acclaimed chefs in the world – have been hard at work preparing a number of Expedition Everest themed desserts, which guests can find throughout the Walt Disney World resort.

The first two desserts are appropriately found close the Animal Kingdom theme park at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, a resort that allows you to watch the giraffes and zebras of the Animal Kingdom attraction, Kilmanjaro Safari, graze from your hotel room balcony.

Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Boma restaurant is now featuring “Snow Capped Everest Cakes,” a cake soaked in Amarula, which is an African liquor. The cake is then topped with “snow” made of white chocolate.

Also at Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can find another Everest themed dessert at Jiko – The Cooking Place. Jiko is currently offering the “Expedition to Everest Sundae.” This sundae is actually a caramelized banana split, also containing Amarula, and made with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The sundae is then topped with malted whipped cream peaks and delicate chocolate wisps.

Away from the Animal Kingdom area, you can find the “Everest Snowball” at Shutters at Old Port Royale at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The “Everest Snowball” is actually an Oreo cake dipped in white chocolate and coconut. The “Everest Snowball” is served with both a chocolate cookie and topped with chocolate and strawberry sauces.

At the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, you can find the aptly titled “Everest Expedition” at Narcoossee’s. This brown sugar tart is placed within a pool of chocolate and raspberry sauce, this signature Everest dessert is then topped with mounds of vanilla, or as it’s known at Narcoosee’s, “snow.”

As with most dining experiences (sans counter service) within the Disney World resort, I strongly recommend advance reservations. You can make reservations for any of the aforementioned restaurants by calling 407-WDW-DINE.
