Ever since my grandmother was admitted to the hospital I have been desperately trying to create unique photo inspired art projects to brighten up her sterile room. I told you about our latest project in a previous blog, which I have since completed and sent to her. My daughter and I are now working on two more photo projects that can be used to put a smile on any recipient’s face. The following is easy, affordable, and the best part… it’s a great way to use leftover photographs.
PHOTO FLOWERS
What You’ll Need:
• Colored construction paper
• Scissors, Glue, Tape
• Photos of family members’ faces
• Green Pipe cleaners
• Small flower pot
• Styrofoam ball or Floral Foam
• Small rocks
First, choose one color of the paper to be the center of the flower. Trace a circle and cut it out. Then, use that circle to trace and cut your photo. For example, I used several pictures of my daughter making a variety of funny faces to create an entire bouquet of photo flowers. Once you cut the picture, glue it to the circle. Then, on a different colored piece of paper trace the shape of a flower and cut it out. Now you’re ready to glue the center of the flower. After the glue dries take a piece of tape and stick it to the back of your flower then adhere the flower to the pipe cleaner so that it looks like a flower on a stem. Next, place a piece of Floral Foam (or a Styrofoam ball) into your small flowerpot. Then, take each finished flower and stick it into the Floral Foam until the stem stays in place. Finally, cover the foam with small rocks, glass beads or anything that has a little weight to hold it in place.
You could get as creative and fancy as you want with your photo flowers. You could add leaves to your stems add embellishments such as glitter or stickers to the flower’s petals. You could also tie a ribbon around the flowerpot to add a pretty touch.
