On Friday Mick and I spent a lovely day. In the morning I finally made our Christmas cakes. You’ll find the recipe of one of them on yesterday’s food blog. The other one went up earlier.
On Wednesday I put two lots of fruit intended for two Christmas cakes to soak in port but since Thursday was close to 104 degrees, I decided to leave it till the next day when it was supposed to turn cooler. Thankfully it did. So the cakes got made. Mick meanwhile was busy card making. He’s been working on family birthday cards for the rest of the year.
Then I had a deadline on some book reviews, so had to make sure they got away before lunch.
After lunch Mick and I decided to chance that the rain had stopped and take the dogs for a walk. On the way we ran across a number of kangaroos out enjoying the cooler weather.
When we came home, we set about decorating the Christmas tree. We had one little confused dog trying to get in the middle of all the action, and chasing any of the baubles that accidentally dropped.
Satisfied at last we sat to read for a while before we thought about preparing dinner, which we did together – simple pizza – mine is gluten free, his is not. The recipe for gluten free pizza is on the food blog.
We settled down with our pizza to watch a DVD 12 Mile Road with Tom Selleck, which was pretty schmaltzy, although Mick and I found ourselves disagreeing with the attitudes portrayed when it came to marriage, relationships and parenting. So we had a big discussion about that.
So it wasn’t an eventful day but it was enjoyable because we shared it together. As this quote from Johnny Cash says ‘Happiness is being at peace; being with loved ones; being comfortable… But most of all, it’s having those loved ones.’
