So did you purchase a binder to start your holiday organizer? Or perhaps you found another method that works better for you.
We are now just over a week until Thanksgiving. So it’s time to start preparing your home for guests and that means…cleaning.
One of the suggestions I had given in my previous blog was to write down the rooms that need some extra attention before you have family and friends over. If you haven’t already done that, use your holiday organizing binder to make notes.
The point of writing it down is that you don’t feel like you have to tackle the “whole” house. In fact, if you know that when everyone comes over, they will be staying on one level of your home, then don’t bother to clean the upstairs.
Think about how your space will be utilized and concentrate only on those areas where there will be guests. Write down those rooms. This helps set the plan in motion, because there is just something about having it in writing.
Now that you have figured out which rooms you need to work on, enlist the help of others. Write down chores or tasks that could be divided up.
Remember, you are celebrating the holidays, where everyone gathers together. This isn’t just your show, so be sure to get the family on board.
It’s also your opportunity to think through what is really important when it comes to preparing your home. Do you really need to clean that drawer or cabinet, the one no one will even go into? Or could you concentrate more of your efforts on the areas that are visible?
Many people are guilty of over-cleaning when it comes to preparing the home. Don’t waste time or effort where it isn’t really necessary.
You should also think about eliminating cluttered areas and making the main room where family is going to gather more comfortable. Maybe pull in an extra recliner or temporarily get rid of tables or larger pieces that take up space.
By planning now, you will be more prepared.
