Homemade Graduation Party Fun

left

Graduating from middle school, high school or college is a huge deal for many families. Consequently, commencement ceremonies are often followed by massive parties celebrating a graduate’s accomplishments.

Fortunately, all the pomp and circumstance doesn’t have to break the bank. With a little creativity you can create these nifty graduation party decorations and dishes for pennies on the dollar:

Decorative Diplomas

Materials:

Sheets of white paper

Ribbon (in your school’s colors)

Directions:

Write the word “diploma” on one end of the paper.

Roll sheets of paper into tubes lengthwise, so the longest dimension of the paper is the length of the tube and the word “diploma” is visible.

Tie ribbons in the center of the tube.

Place paper diplomas on the gift table or arrange them in piles at the end of the buffet or as a centerpiece.

Mortar Board Table

Materials:

Square table

Two black (or your school’s colors) vinyl tablecloths

Transparent tape

Coordinating colored yarn

Punch bowl

Directions:

Wrap one of the tablecloths around the surface of the table and tape to the underside so none of the extra material is hanging over the edge.

Wrap the second tablecloth around all the table’s legs (to form the cup of the mortar board hat) and secure with tape.

Use yarn to create a tassel. Be sure to leave enough yarn to secure the tassel by looping it around the punch bowl in the center.

Graduation Fruit Pizza

Ingredients:

1 tube of refrigerated biscuit dough

1 large orange

8 ounces of cream cheese at room temperature

2 tablespoons of honey

1 pint of strawberries

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Place two biscuits one on top of the other.

Roll the stacked biscuits out to 6 inches round and about 1/8-inch thick.

Place the dough on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.

Use a fork to gently pierce the dough.

Bake for 8 minutes or until lightly golden.

Remove from oven and let cool.

Grate zest from the orange.

Mix together orange zest, cream cheese, and one tablespoon of the honey until smooth.

Slice strawberries lengthwise.

Squeeze the juice from the orange.

In a bowl, mix the juice, strawberries, and the second tablespoon of honey.

Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees.

Spread the cream cheese on the baked dough to a half-inch from the edge.

Bake until the cheese starts to brown.

Remove from oven and spread the strawberries on top of each pizza.
