Homemade Trick-or-Treat Bags

Do your kids have their trick-or-treat bags ready yet? Logan’s been running around with his for over a week anxiously awaiting the time when he can finally go trick-or-treating! He can hardly stand the excitement. With all the candy floating around I can’t say I blame him! This is a fun time for both parents and children. As a single parent there’s never much money hanging around for fancy little buckets to carry their candy in, but it’s much more fun to make them anyway.

This year let the kids get creative. There are so many different things that can be used as a treat bag on Halloween. If you have some old paint cans lying around the garage, rinse them out and let the kids decorate them however they want. They could paint a face on it or add some googly eyes. They could even jazz things up with some glitter.

If you have a few gift bags hanging around in the closet, those work great too! Let them pick one out and cut out some scary shapes or creatures to glue onto it. Remember to watch little ones with scissors and assist where needed. You wouldn’t want anyone to lose any fingers in the midst of all the decorating fun!

It’s also fun to decorate an old pillowcase you aren’t using anymore. They can color a spooky scene on the front and the best part is they’ll never run out of room for candy! There’s nothing worse than running out of room in your candy bucket in the middle of trick-or-treating! With their personalized pillowcase, they can hit as many houses as they want without having to worry about fitting it all into their little bucket. They can even put the pillowcase on their pillow when they get home. Nothing better than sleeping on a pillowcase that they helped create!

Whatever you decide to do this year, just make sure that you all have fun! That’s what holidays are all about anyway!
