I have to admit, I have never really been a huge fan of football. Actually I bet I would like going to live games, I just can’t handle watching lengthy sporting events on television. That said, I am to some extent pre-disposed to disliking the movie “Invincible”, but I thought it was a decent film.
The Disney movie follows the true story of Vincent Papale, who was the oldest man drafted into the NFL at the age of 30 in 1976. In the story the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles decides to have open try outs for the team. Papale, played by Mark Wahlberg is a bartender at a local bar and a substitute teacher as well as an Eagles season ticket holder decides to try out.
The movie follows him through training camp, where he finally survives and becomes a member of the team. Obviously he has lots of struggles, including some marital issues in the film. Papales father cautions against him trying for the team, but is them very excited to see his son succeed in playing the sport he loves.
This movie is perfect for children who are really into sports. In addition to being a great story you children will have the opportunity to learn a little bit about sports history. This could be a great movie to bring a group of boys to for a Saturday afternoon or a good movie for a father son movie outing.
The movie has some drinking and a small amount of language. I would consider it appropriate for any child 11 and up. If you are not typically a sports movie fan you may enjoy this film anyway. It is for the most part a good feel good type of movie that will make everyone happy on a family trip to the movie theater.
