Judging Mothers: No One Gets a Break

Isn’t it ironic that the sisterhood of motherhood typically includes some of the harshest critics a female could ever have?

Women are catty. Not all, but many.

Even more disturbing is the perpetual trend of mothers judging other mothers.

The verdict is never good.

I know this for a fact. I am a mom and I have been severely judged by some of the most malicious and spiteful women on the face of the earth. Fortunately, I didn’t let their comments break me, much to their chagrin. But isn’t that the point?

So what of the latest trend in maternal judgment?

According to the all-knowing media, more and more women are turning on first-time moms. Females, who have yet to give birth, are being picked on by their fellow gender buddies before they even give birth. What’s up with that?

Us Magazine recently devoted four pages to comments from “sources” who decided that Oscar Award-winning actress and mom-to-be Natalie Portman deserved to be chastised for giving up her vegan ways in order to satisfy her pregnancy cravings.

Clearly, some people have way too much time on their hands.

For those of you who care, the magazine printed excerpts from a recent radio interview Portman gave in which she confessed to devouring egg dishes during her pregnancy. The so-called “problem” is that the gorgeous actress is a self-confessed vegan.

“If you’re not eating eggs, then you can’t have cookies or cake from regular bakeries, which can become a problem when that’s all you want to eat,” Portman said. “I actually wanted eggs at the beginning and then they grossed me out after awhile.”

Portman reportedly adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2009 after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals. So basically she’s been a vegan for less than two years.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped other vegan moms from publicly attacking the actress. Most were appalled that Portman decided to give into her cravings when she could have scarfed down other goodies that were vegan-friendly.

Good word people, get a life.

Portman told the radio station that she is following a vegetarian diet during her pregnancy, so it’s not like she’s gorging on chocolate cake 24/7, and even if she were; what’s it to you?

Let the kid eat what she wants. Goodness knows her unborn child is likely not suffering because his or her mom is enjoying a few egg-laced cookies.
