Flowers are pretty, cards are nice, and chocolate can do wonders to improve a woman’s mood, but if you really want to impress mom this Mother’s Day, then consider channeling your crafty side to make these homemade gifts:
BEADED NAPKIN RINGS
Materials:
Needle nose pliers
1 package of bracelet memory wire (Found at craft stores or in the craft aisle of larger discount chains—the wire looks like a slinky–1 package typically has 15 coils in it, which yields 12-13 napkin rings)
50 multi-color beads per napkin ring (You could choose two favorite colors and place 25 of each color per ring or you could use 3 or 4 different colors per napkin ring)
Directions:
Clip off a little more than one coil from the wire.
Use needle nose pliers to bend one end of the coil over. Make sure it is bent tightly; you don’t want the beads to fall off the end.
Thread the beads onto the memory wire in a pattern of your choice until you have about 3/4 of an inch of wire left sticking out.
Use needle nose pliers to bend the other end of the coil (like you did the first end).
Make 4 to 6 matching napkin rings to give as a gift.
COFFEE FILTER FLOWERS
Materials:
Markers
Paper coffee filters
Chenille stems
Directions:
Let kids color 5-7 coffee filters with markers. Let them use their imaginations to draw, doodle or randomly color portions of or all of the filters.
Place one coffee filter decorative side down on the table.
Stack other coffee filters decorative side up on top.
Fold coffee filters in half.
Scrunch middle of the coffee filters (starting with the bottom coffee filter and work your way up).
Wrap chenille stem tightly around scrunched area of flower to hold in place.
Straighten chenille stem to resemble flower stem.
Make 6-12 flowers and place them in a basket or vase and present to mom.
