The Baby Einstein Company is well-known by parents and children everywhere as the company that makes learning fun. Another one of their DVDs comes under such a category. “On the Go: Riding, Sailing, and Soaring” teaches your child all about the different modes of transportation. Land, air, and water transportation are all covered in this fun musical guide.
Land
Of course, the obligatory vehicle for land is a car. This video features cars in all kinds of ways, such as cars going down a highway, a child in a play car, and a toy car on a track. Buses are also shown as land transportation. What bus display would be complete without a few verses of “The Wheels on the Bus?” This song is made particularly fun as the Baby Einstein Puppets ride on the bus and help display the things that the bus does “all through the town.” There is even a scene that shows the Baby Einstein Puppets in different land vehicles sitting at a stoplight. This cute part teaches your child that red means “stop” and green means “go.”
Water
Various modes of water transportation are featured in the On Water scene. Speedboats are shown zooming across lakes. Sailboarders are shown zipping through waves in the ocean. Cruise ships are shown cruising through open seas. A steamboat floats lazily down the Mississippi River. To accompany this segment is the music of Mozart and Haydn.
Air
Naturally you see airplanes in this segment. However, there is also a scene with multi-colored hot air balloons rising into the air and floating above the town. Another fun object which wouldn’t necessarily be considered a vehicle is the hang glider.
Another great feature of “On the Go” is that there are three language tracks. Once your child knows the names of all of the vehicles in English, try the French or Spanish language tracks. I tried the French language track on my daughter and she was trying to repeat those words as well.
