In a move designed to spread the message of the importance of preschool education beyond its own Early Childhood Centers the KinderCare Early Childhood Education and Care Provider has initiated a new book sharing program.
The KinderCare administration and educational staff has always emphasized the importance of reading to young children as a vital tool in building reading readiness skills among young learners. Now, in an effort to spread that message beyond the confines of KinderCare Centers, KinderCare is spearheading a book sharing program that will carry the message from KinderCare families into their communities.
The importance of moving into the world of reading with adequate reading readiness skills is recognized among early childhood educators as being a central indicator of a child’s future educational success. Reading readiness skills give a child the assurance and proficiency to grasp the foundations of reading and continue through school as a confident student. One of the most important elements in reading readiness, educators agree, is instilling the desire to read in these children.
KinderCare, in conjunction with the co-founder of its parent company Knowledge Universe, developed a unique project of book sharing in 2011. This program aims to ensure that families have access to books which they can read to their children and prepare the children to become competent readers.
The program, “Read. Share.Give” facilitates access to age-appropriate books for families of young children. Every family that registers for the program receives a book which they can then read to their children. Afterward, the family passes the book on to another family member, neighbor or friend. KinderCare tracks the books with tracking numbers and encourages each family to continue the process of sharing the books.
Read. Share. Give has already shared over 15,000 books and every share triggers a donation from Knowledge Universe which enables the program to buy more books and expand the opportunities.
