Reusing Household Items- Aluminum Foil

Today though I’m looking at ways to recycle, as usual. I can’t stand the amount of waste that is generated so I’m doing everything I can to reduce it. Right now I’m down to putting out the garbage cans only once a month, I would like to do even better. There are some families that have almost zero waste, I don’t know if that is achievable for me, but I’d like to try.

Did you know it will take 400 years for aluminum foil to break down in a landfill? I’ve always tried to reuse aluminum foil. I will wash it and fold it up to use another day. I recently found some other things you can do with foil.

Did you know you can sharpen your scissors with aluminum foil? Just fold it into a square and cut through it several times, this also works for rotary fabric cutters. Just make a square and cut through it, you won’t have to replace the blade so often.

In the laundry room an aluminum foil ball in the dryer will reduce static cling and a piece of aluminum foil under your ironing board cover will reduce ironing time by ironing both sides at once by reflecting the heat back up.

Aluminum foil is a great scrubber. Works for gas grills and the outside of pots and pans, I wouldn’t use it inside the pan unless it was cast iron.

Use it to cover knobs and drawer handles when painting, it’s quicker than tape and molds to any shape.

Then there are the ways everyone knows, use to get rid of tarnish on silverware and to keep pie crusts from burning. Kids also like using aluminum foil in their art projects.

To save money, and the planet try to reuse everything before it goes in to the recycling bin or the trash.
