Keep your baby safe while you are visiting a theme park with the following tips.
Here at the Romans home, we are gearing up for those summer day trips. One place on our list is the Dutch Wonderland theme park, located in nearby Lancaster (Amish) County. This theme park is really geared up for little ones with gentle rides, strolling princesses and dragons and lots of fun activities. We are really looking forward to visiting and taking lots of photos of the kids in action, including our youngest who isn’t yet two.
While theme parks can be fun, we always have safety in mind, and I thought I would share some of the common sense things that we do to keep our baby in particular and all our kids safe.
Bee stings can be traumatic for a baby, not to mention life threatening, if the baby is allergic. While lazy bumble bees seldom cause a problem, you’ll find lots of yellow jackets and wasps hanging around the theme park. They are attracted to the sweet smells of garbage and discarded food. Be aware of your surroundings when you choose a place to sit or stand. Avoid spots next to garbage cans and concession stands. Avoid wearing perfume or strong floral-scented deodorant on the day of your visit.
Before you leave the house, take digital photographs of your kids. This way, if a child gets separated, you’ll have up to the moment photos that include the clothing your baby or toddler is wearing.
Pack plenty of water, juice or formula in your diaper bag and make sure to have a game plan for nursing at the theme park if you breast feed. Babies can get dehydrated quickly, so you want to make sure to keep the liquid flowing.
Make sure you also have plenty of sun block, a hat, and a canopy on your stroller or baby back pack for sun protection. If your baby is under six months, avoid sun block unless your pediatrician gives the okay.
