A couple of my blogs this week (“Cars” is Breeding in my House, and Counting the Years with Merchandising) have been pondering on the very successful merchandising efforts of Disney, and reflecting on how much stuff we’ve bought for our kids, and how payment for this must be helping to keep Disney employees paid. Continuing my thoughts on this (with 2 preschoolers, a freelance business, and a home – and hubby to take care of, you need to let your mind work on something pathetically unimportant now and then just to keep the stress levels down), I realized that it’s not just the boys who are responsible for the Disney financial contributions! I’m equally guilty!
It’s not just Disney movies either – although I do love many of these, and have most of the “classics” on video. No, it gets far worse than that! Once the thought entered my mind about my own Disney passion I had to take a little look around the house and see what Disney merchandise I actually own. Now I’m not sure how much I should confess to having!
My main passion would appear to be Disney’s Eeyore. His cute solemn face peeps up at me from notebooks, journals, clothing items and of course stuffies (one of which even says Eeyore-isms and makes me smile every time I hear it!). Then there’s the “Lion King” Simba related items, and not forgetting my alter-ego Tinker Bell. You’d have to see me to know how far removed in looks I am from Tinker Bell, but I do have her free spirit and mischievous nature! Some of my things were bought on my various visits to Disney World, but it has to be said that many of them have been collected over eBay.
Having taken a fresh look at my Disney loot, it has to be said that I must have the Peter Pan gene that my mum has always maintained I had – but what can you expect from a 42 year old Barbie collector!
