Some people put in line items for bathroom products, cleaning products and then groceries. Usually, we lump all of these expenses together, since I most often buy groceries and cleaning products at the same time. I was thinking about bathroom products, though, all of those shampoos, soaps, body wash, etc., and curious about how much we spend. With the exception of some special toothpaste because of one child’s allergy, we really don’t spend much money on bathroom products. In fact, I can’t recall the last time that we did.
So how do I get away with hardly spending anything on bathroom products? This is what it is like in my household.
I Get Free Samples
I keep my eye out for free samples and free sample opportunities. I usually find free sample products of shampoo, conditioner, lotion and other products. Then instead of putting the in a drawer somewhere, I actually use them on a daily basis. I usually have a pretty steady stream of free sample supplies.
You can get free samples by signing up for them online, visiting company websites and Facebook pages, tearing them out of magazines and picking them up at doctor’s offices.
I Use Coupons
Many coupons do not specify the size of the product you must purchase to use the coupon. If there is no specification, it means that you can use the coupon for sample or travel sizes. A $1 coupon applied to a $1 travel shampoo makes it absolutely free.
Buy one get one coupons applied when products are on a buy one get one free sale will give me two products for free. This is how I purchase all of my disposable razors.
I Take Orphans
When someone finds that they have too much of a product, or have purchased a product that they decide they don’t like, they know that I will give it a good home. I am happy to take in stray products, from unopened bars of soap to opened bottles of shampoo. I get months of supplies this way. I am picky about where the products come from, although I am not picky about brands or scents.
