Life is busy. There is a lot to be done to prepare for the holidays. It might make sense to put exercise on the backburner. After all, there is always the New Year, right? Wrong.
Let’s face it. We can always come up with an excuse to not exercise and to indulge ourselves in unhealthy food choices. The holidays are just a convenient time in which to do this.
It can be hard to stay motivated during this time of year. But there are ways to overcome the challenges.
First, you just might have to accept the fact that exercise has to move down your list of priorities. Let’s say you have a gym membership and go everyday after work. But you still have gifts to buy and cookies to bake, along with the usual expectations of running a home and taking care of a family.
It could be very difficult to make it to the gym like you usually do. Accept it but then make adjustments. This is the second way to overcome challenges in exercising during the holidays.
For instance, if you can’t make it to the gym every night, try to get in a walk after dinner as many nights as you can. Or get up a little earlier and go before work.
By making adjustments, you just might find that something else works better. I’ve had my own routine in the morning of what I do. But since my husband has been on vacation this week, I was able to make some adjustments. Turns out I prefer to work out first thing in the morning instead of pushing it off until later.
Lastly, it could be that you have also grown bored of your exercises. Try something new. Exercise at home instead of the gym. Or get a free pass to the gym for a week, instead of working out at home. Put a little variety into your fitness routine.
The holidays can be a stressful, busy time. But it doesn’t mean you can’t overcome your fitness challenges.
