10 Hot News Items for the Week of August 21st

Here are some news and gossip items you may or may not have heard about.

10. Jackie Mason Sues the Jews for Jesus

First Mel Gibson, now this! Comedian Jackie Mason is suing the missionary group Jews for Jesus because, well, frankly, he’s too Jewish to be on their brochure. Oh yeah, and they forgot to ask permission to use his image.

9. Sci-Fi Kills Stargate SG-1

It’s true, the Sci-Fi channel pulled the plug on the longest running science fiction series on American television. I bet Stargate devotees get no sympathy from original Star Trek fans.

8. CBS Execs Lose Their Minds

Okay, maybe not all of them, but certainly the ones who thought it would be a good idea to shake up Survivor this season by dividing up the tribes by ethnic groups. Did we time warp back to the 50s?

7. Pluto Demoted: Disney Still Has Sense of Humor

I just read this statement from the Seven Dwarfs on the fact that planet Pluto has now been demoted to the status of “dwarf” planet. This statement is the funniest thing to come out of Disney in years!

“Although we think it’s Dopey that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people Grumpy and others just Sleepy, we are not Bashful in saying we would be Happy if Disney’s Pluto would join us as an eighth dwarf. We think this is just what the Doc ordered and is nothing to Sneeze at.”

6. John C. McGinley To Say ‘I Do’

He plays the easily agitated, smarmy, Dr. Perry Cox on “Scrubs” but he seems to be a great guy in real life. John just asked his girlfriend of almost three years, Nicole Kressler, to marry him – best wishes!

5. Busta Rhymes Arrested for Assault

Apparently, the fan he assaulted spit on Busta’s SUV. What? Busta really is a gansta?

4. CNN To Rebroadcast 9/11 Coverage

That’s right folks, on September 11, 2006, we can relive the terror all over again with a real time feel. Coverage starts at 8:30 am and ends at midnight. You will also be able to see it for free on the online video service CNN Pipeline.

3. Bruce Springsteen Separated from Wife?

Patti’s mom told the New York Post she didn’t know anything about it and didn’t want to talk about it, but rumors are flying that it is over between The Boss and wife of 20 years, Patti Scialfa. Bruce has reportedly been seen with a mystery woman near his New Jersey home and many say it is a 9/11 widow that he met while on the telethon “America: A Tribute to Heroes.” Um, Bruce, leaving your wife and three children isn’t very heroic.

2. SNL Falling Apart at the Seams?

They already lost Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch, is Saturday Night Live now losing Chris Parnel, Horatio Sanz, and Kenan Thompson? The Los Angeles Times said they probably aren’t going to be back next season, but that is news to Sanz. Do I smell another SNL season like 85 and 86 coming on?

1. Tom Cruise Loses a Studio

Why did it take so long for the backlash to start? Read more about this in Michele’s blog.
