Happy Thanksgiving!
This is my favorite day of the year. As I explained in I Am So Thankful for All of the Animal Lovers Out There, I was given a precious gift back in 1999: Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy. It was that book that introduced me to the power of gratitude and to keeping track of it in a gratitude journal, which was an act that revolutionized my life.
I don’t always write in my gratitude journal every day, it’s more like a weekly journal, but today is the one day of the year I make sure to put an entry in there.
Except I thought I’d do something a little different this year. Instead of listing all I’m grateful for in my journal, I’ll list the things Murphy, Kitty, and Tabby make me grateful for here.
I’m grateful…
1. That Mr. Meow adopted me by following me up the stairs that November night in 1999.
2. That Murph chose us as his people when we walked into the shelter in September of 2001.
3. That I stopped to pick up that little cat in the middle of the road this past February who’s become our beloved Tabby Girl.
4. That it didn’t take Wayne long at all to fall under Tabby’s spell and quickly agree we could keep her if her parents weren’t found.
5. That Kitty and Tabby have learned to become friends after all. (Man, it was rough going there for a while, but thankfully they are buds now!)
6. That all three of them get along so well.
7. For our morning and evening playtimes with the huts and assorted toys and all the laughter and fun they bring to my life.
8. For the way Mr. Meow snuggles with me and wraps his legs around my arms at night.
9. That Mr. Meow is even back to sleeping with me at all.
10. For the way Tabby instantly brings calm to my being when she perches on me when I’m lying in bed or on the couch.
11. For the great good morning wakeups Murph has always given me and that Tab now helps him with.
12. That Murph is such a good dog. He listens so well and has such good manners.
13. That I can trust Murph to be off leash in our yard so he can enjoy his sunbaking time in the afternoons or leave food unattended and trust he won’t snatch it.
14. That all three of them are healthy.
15. That waking up to all three of them sleeping around me on the bed is becoming more and more common.
