2006 Best Girl Toys

If you’ve got a little girl you are probably wondering what you get her this year. Here are this year’s top girl toys according to the Toy Industry Association.

Dora’s Talking Kitchen
Cost: $75-90
Manufacturer: Fisher Price

Dora is the hottest name brand this year and also took home the hottest toy award in the girl’s toy division. The top award winner was a pretend play kitchen. Most little girls love to cook and with this kitchen set they can cook along with Dora. The little kitchen features recipe cards, and a 28-piece accessory set. The kitchen is interactive and the phone, radio, map, and blender make sounds. It also has a touch screen where children can play out five Dora food-based adventures.

Amazing Amanda
Cost: $70-120
Manufacturer: Playmates Toys Inc
Amazing Amanda is a new-generation doll that speaks, eats food, plays games, and needs to be potty trained. The doll can learn to recognize her mommy’s voice and respond. Her face can even change to reflect her emotions. The parental reviews are mixed. Many parents loved the doll but some did not because the doll often did not recognize their child’s voice or their child became frustrated with the doll’s endless questions. That said, this doll is not for younger children or one that cannot speak clearly. It also works best in a quiet environment. If the doll is turned off it must be reprogrammed.

Bratz Babyz
Cost: $8-10
Manufacurer: MGA Entertainment
Personally I don’t like Bratz dolls, no parent actually dresses their baby in the clothes that these bratz wear, but they are popular. There are a wide variety of baby bratz with accessories at a price that any parent can afford.

Pixel Chix
Cost: $20-50
Manufacurer: Mattel
Pixel Chix are virtual toys especially designed for school-age girls. The toys feature a screen where your child can interact with a virtual buddy. The buttons allow your child to play, eat, change clothes, go out, or go to sleep, as well as answer questions. The toy does require that your child pay attention to their pixel chix pal. When more than one pixel chix gets together they can interact, chat, or even dance.

Tamagotchi Connection Version 2
Cost: $15-35
Manufacurer: Bandai America
This is a new improved version of the original Tamagotchi virtual pet. When you start up the unit the Tamagotchi appears as an egg, then hatches. Your child must feed the baby, play with it, clean up after it, and provide praise. Kids can earn Gotchi points that they can use to shop for fun items. They can also interact with other Tamagotchi pets.
