23andMe is doing a series of three “Back-to-School” courses for genealogists. There is a quiz that goes along with each course. Genealogists who take the quiz have a chance to will an Amazon Gift Card. They just extended the deadline to complete the quiz for Genetics 101.
It is nice when genealogy websites offer free courses that can teach genealogists a little bit more about their favorite subject. 23andMe is doing a short series of three “Back-to-School” courses for genealogists. Each one includes a series of videos and a “pop quiz” for you to take when you have finished watching the videos.
Those who take the quizzes must be 18 years of age or older, and a United States resident. Each person who takes the quiz will get a chance to win a $25.00 Amazon Gift Card. There is a time limit in which you must complete the quiz in order to be entered into the drawing.
23andMe has extended the deadline for you to complete the quiz for their Genetics 101 course. The new deadline is 11:59 P.M. PST on September 16, 2012. The reason for the extension is because in the original quiz “we neglected to capture your name and email address”. If you already took the quiz, before 10:00 in the morning on September 10, 2012, you need to re-take it (if you want a chance to win an Amazon Gift Card).
It makes sense that 23andMe is teaching genealogists about genetics with this “Back-to-School” quiz. After all, they are a company that makes and sells a personal DNA test kit. Send in a sample of your saliva, and you can learn more about the information your genetics holds about your health and heritage. Genealogists who use the 23andMe service might find relatives that they didn’t know about thanks to the knowledge gleaned from the results of DNA testing.
If you missed the first course, Human Prehistory 101, you can still check it out. It is no longer possible for people to win a gift card from taking the quiz that goes with the course, but the videos, and the information on them, are still available.
Sometime soon, 23andMe will reveal what the third course in their “Back-to-School” courses for genealogists will be. So far, each course has a Certificate of Completion that you can print out after you are done with the course. I presume the third course will have a corresponding certificate, as well. To find the certificates, scroll down past the quiz portion on the 23andMe blog post for a “Back-to-School” course.
