Kiefer Sutherland stars in the hit drama “24.” It’s a real action-packed show that has gone green. Actually, it was around season four that the series aimed to reduce its carbon footprint, according to Sutherland.
In an interview Sutherland mentions that it’s not possible to completely erase their carbon footprint because they do have to drive to work. However, all of the trucks driven on the set are hybrids. Sutherland also shares that cast members were making a lot of changes within the office and production building to help preserve the planet.
One of the actresses in the show, Katee Sackhoff, was raised in Oregon by a green-living mother. She says that since the age of four she has been recycling.
Another “24” cast member Chris Diamantopoulos, admits that he burned a lot of fuel last year taking 51 cross country flights. The actor lives in New York with his actress wife, Becki Newton (who appears on the show “Ugly Betty”). Diamantopoulos says he tries to make up for it at home by using bottled water and drinking filtered water. They have also switched to fluorescent light bulbs and are recyclable.
Yet another actor on the show that embraces green living is Mark Valley. He is very conscientious about recycling and keeps a bin in his apartment to do so.
It’s nice to see Hollywood, and in particular, actors on a hit show like “24” getting on board the green train. Since they tend to have a lot of influence over people, perhaps it will get others thinking more about green living. To see stars not only implement changes in their personal lives, but actually integrate them into their television programs is admirable.
