3 Fun Classic Games Turned Into Water Games

Most kids love to play games. There are dozens of classic games that have been around for years if not centuries. Wouldn’t it be fun if you could figure out a way to add some water to these classic games to make a perfect and fun way to beat the heat?

Here are a few classic games, now with a twist of added water.

Duck, Duck, Splash

This is the water rendition of “Duck, Duck, Goose”. My children have been playing this since they were old enough to enjoy the original. You will need a large car washing sponge (available in any auto cleaning supply aisle – it is just a larger sponge). A child will be chosen as “It” and will walk around the circle touching each player on the head with the sponge. Just as in the original game, they will say “Duck” as they do this. When the finally shout “Splash” the entire sponge will be squeezed on that players head. The splashed player will then get up and attempt to tag “It” before “It” returns to the splashed players spot. We once found a variation of the game with a cup where a bit of water was dripped out on each players head until “SPLASH” and then the rest of the cup.

Sponge Tag

You will need a large sponge (car washing sponges work perfect) and a bucket of water in which to soak the sponge. You will need a person that is ‘It’ and this person will have the sponge. Instead of tagging with their hands, they will use the wet sponge. A great and fun way to cool off in the summer.

Fill the Bucket

This is a twist on the game of getting the most bean bags into a bucket. You will need four buckets or other containers. They should be the same size. Place two of them next to each other and a few feet away, directly across place the other two. You will need to fill up two buckets on one side and leave the other two alone. There are several ways you can play this – with a sponge, a wash cloth, a cup, or a towel. The goal is to see who can fill up their bucket the fastest. Dunk the sponge and allow it absorb the water, run to the other end and squeeze the water out into the other bucket. Loads of fun and can expend quite a bit of energy. A fun twist is that the person who fills the bucket the fastest gets to dump the water on the slow poke.
