Are you looking for some fun water activities for your kids? In the hot summer months, water is almost a necessity. Many families have a pool, but it isn’t required to have a great time and continue to beat the heat. Here are a few activities for having fun with water that don’t require the use of a pool.
Water Balloon Toss
This can be a fun game for kids of all ages. When dealing with extremely young children, tossing the water balloon at a box or board is a better alternative than having them throw it at someone. In fact, I don’t recommend throwing balloons at each other at all, as it can be quite dangerous. You can throw water balloons into buckets, boxes, a plastic baby pool, and other items.
Hula Hoop Water Game
You will need several hula hoops for this game and some water balloons or sponges soaked in water. If you have enough children, they can hold the hula hoops up and a child can throw the sponge or water balloons through the hoop. Another way to play it is to lay the hula hoops down on the ground a few feet apart in a vertical line. Have a child stand at a marked area and throw the sponge or balloon and try to get it to land into the center of the hoops. Sponges work best for this as they are less likely to bounce out of the hula hoop circle. Each hula hoop should represent a different point value. If the child seems as if they are getting most of the sponges in, you might wish to move the throwing line back a bit.
Water/Hose Limbo
My children discovered this game while playing with the hose and the squirt nozzle this year. Have one person stand holding the hose with a squirt nozzle attached. You will need the water to be a fairly straight stream of water as the children then begin to limbo below it. Have the hose holder lower the limbo pole (the hose) each time making it more and more difficult. This is great fun and many children enjoy deliberately hitting the water stream just to cool off a little.
