3 Holiday Gift Basket Ideas

Gift baskets are expensive to purchase but frugal to assemble yourself. I like to make them myself for that reason. From holiday gifts to friends, family and neighbors, to baskets that can be auctioned off for charity, holiday gift baskets will help you give more this year for less money.

Here are four different ideas that you can use to put together holiday gift baskets.

1. Holiday Baking Basket

This basket is always a hit at our school auction. Most people love the idea of baking during the holidays but don’t have the tools or don’t know how to get started. You can include both tools and ingredients.

For the tools, scour the local dollar stores for measuring spoons, measuring cups and more.
For ingredients, watch the store sales flyers and use coupons to get the best prices on small bags of flour, sugar, baking chips, vanilla, nuts, baking powder, baking soda, holiday sprinkles and more.

2. Baby it’s Cold Outside

Create a snuggle in basket for very little money, especially if you make most of the elements yourself. Include some fire starters (dip pine cones into wax), kindling (gather it yourself), long fireplace matches or gas lighter, a couple of pretty mugs (get them at the dollar store or thrift store), some hot chocolate (buy the packets or make your own mix) and a warm throw. You can even make an inexpensive throw by purchasing two pieces of flannel material, snipping the ends into strips and tying the strips together.

3. Kid’s Activity Basket

Much cheaper and with more impact than a single toy is a kid’s activity basket. You can get a lot of little toys and games at the dollar store and even put some games together yourself. If you have a school supply stock pile, dive into it for crayons, scissors, glue and markers. Include inexpensive coloring books to fill out the basket. Print paper dolls or paper toys on to card stock (you can find them online) that can be cut out and assembled.
