3 Quick AHA Ways to Save Money

Although I have been blogging about frugal living and saving money for some time, there are still some of those AHA moments that come to me either through the ether or through friends. That is when I think, “why didn’t I think of that earlier?” Here are some quick and easy ways to save money.

1. Block out the heat in your home with car blockers. This Old Housewife mentions this tip on the Dollar Stretcher. It is brilliant. Those windshield heat blockers for cars can work equally well in your home, provided that you have the sizing right. I’ve seen these blockers for as little as $1 at the dollar stores, so even if you needed a couple for each of your sun-facing windows, you will still come out ahead with savings in cooling costs.

2. Save those butter wrappers. Instead of buying those non-stick sprays or wasting butter or oil, simply save your butter wrappers. I usually keep a couple in the refrigerator and the rest in the freezer. A few minutes on the counter will thaw the wrappers enough to use them to grease a pan or baking dish. I used a wrapper in an emergency when I was out of spray and loved how it worked.

3. Use ordinary objects instead of expensive extra kitchen gadgets. I admit that I enjoy browsing through a store such as Williams-Sonoma. There is a kitchen gadget for every use, but if you want to save money, get creative using ordinary objects to do the same job. For example, did you know that dental floss can be used to cut cheese? An extra large ceramic tile can become a pizza stone, a soup ladle can also ladle out pancake batter, etc. See a need and get creative with what you already have.
