4th of July is a really good time for family time, especially for the single parent. It doesn’t just have to be on the fourth though. There will be celebrations in this area all the way up to the 14th. Top Ten things to do on or around 4th of July?
Watch fireworks: With the amount of fireworks that happen around this day they are pretty much impossible to miss. Some places do them on different days before and after the fourth as well.
Barbecue: This doesn’t have to be a big extravaganza. Grab a pack of hot dogs and a pack of buns, a small bag of chips for each, and a soda for each.
Go to the park: Whether you are going alone or meeting people there, go to the park with the kids. It’s free, and a lot of them have grills to use while you are there, so you can barbecue while you are there.
Go to the beach: We do this a lot less than going to the park, so this is more of a treat for Jonathan then the park.
Do some snaps, snakes, and sparklers: I don’t know what the legalities of fireworks/crackers are from state to state, but I believe you can find snappers and snakes just about anywhere.
Go to local celebrations: A lot of places have some sort of festival. A get together at the park, a street dance downtown, etc. Go have some fun there.
Go to carnival: Some towns schedule their local carnival to be at the same time as 4th of July celebrations. Go take a few rides, play a few games, and try a fried candy bar on a stick, or some other food you know you like.
Visit family: Holidays are my favorite times, not because of all the new and exciting things that we could do, but because of the time we spend with people we’ve known our whole life, time spent in our comfort zone. Holidays are usually the time that we have our bigger family get togethers.
Visit friends: Maybe your family is too far away to go visit this holiday. Maybe you don’t get along with them. Have a get together with the people that are becoming your family instead. Some friends are as close, or closer than family.
Play with your child/ren: No matter what you decide to do from the list above, play WITH your children. Don’t just sit off on the sidelines. Get up and get out there with them. Go on the swings or slide at the park, get in the water with them at the lake, go on that ride at the carnival, get in on the game of catch or Frisbee. Have fun with them, not just watching them.
