This is a HUGE weekend for coupons in the newspaper. Five, (count ’em) FIVE inserts will be in the Sunday paper. There will be two from Smart Source, two from Red Plum, and one from General Mills. You need to buy extra papers this Sunday, as the future savings and possible profit on some deals will be worth it.
Now on a Sunday like this, you want extra inserts – but where do you get them? My friend Marnie Moore has recently published a free e-book with tips for beginning couponers. One of the things she tells new couponers is to find sources of inserts. And she has some creative suggestions.
One suggestion is to get your kids involved. You might not want to ask friends and neighbors, but your kids might want to! Kids often have no problem saying – hey, please don’t throw that out, my mom uses those! Kids also enjoy canvassing the neighborhood to see who throws stuff out – and then YOU can ask. Or a husband might be able to take the coupons home from the newspaper in the break room at work, if it’s ok with co workers. Some ideas I can come up with are asking at news stands for extras. And, like me, I know that one of Marnie’s secrets is that she’s a dumpster diver. If you live in an area with a recycling center for newspapers, visit it frequently. It’s good for the environment, and good for you too!
Another suggestion is to clip everything that has a value – especially if you shop regularly at the drugstores with rebate/store credit promotions, or supermarkets that have in store catalinas. You may not really use the product much, but if you can get it for free by using a coupon, or profit by buying it with a coupon and then getting a rebate, you are ahead of the game. Marnie suggests that you can donate some of these products. I have to tell you, I feature these things in garage sales, and they do well.
For me, some of the highlights tomorrow will be the Garnier coupons – I will use those at Walgreens for a profit. And the Suave body wash B2G1F will work well for me at the local dollar store!
Happy clipping – and happy deal hunting in the next few weeks!
