When it comes to goal setting, most of us think about the New Year. That’s the time when resolutions are made. But summer is a perfect opportunity to do the same.
If there is ever a season to really be committed to a fit lifestyle, summer is it. It’s the perfect time of year to start eating healthier and incorporate more physical activity into your day. So with that, here are 5 fitness goals you should have for the summer.
The first goal is to eat more fruit. Not only is this the season for some of the freshest fruits but you can also find a lot of them on sale.
Watermelon, peaches, cantaloupe, kiwi and nectarines are just a few that taste delicious on a hot summer day. Start replacing some of your unhealthy snacks with fruit and you will begin to notice a difference.
A second fitness goal for the summer is to become more active with your kids. Children love spending time outdoors during the warmer months. But don’t just send the kids outside, join them.
There are so many activities that you can do with your children. Biking, swimming, waterskiing, and skating are just some.
Not only do you get the benefit of spending more time with your kids. But you also set a good example when you engage in physical activity and exercise.
A third goal is to take advantage of the scenery. What I mean by that is go on walks, bike rides or jog through trails, by the beach or other areas that you wouldn’t get to throughout the other months.
If you take a vacation, don’t let that stop you from getting up early and taking a walk. You may be visiting another part of the country where you can not only incorporate some physical activity but take advantage of the beautiful scenery surrounding you.
A fourth goal is to drink more water. This is the perfect time to start replacing your soda and juice with water. With warmer temperatures you will stay hydrated. And by making it a habit now, it will carry on into the other months.
Finally, make it your goal to do something active every single day. Don’t let a day pass by where you aren’t at least taking a walk. Summer is not the time to spend wasting away on the couch.
