That’s bandanas or bandannas folks, not bananas. I suddenly have a ton of them. After cleaning out some old containers in the basement along with two dresser drawers I counted 32 of the little fabric squares. And I know we have more in our dress up box, in my drawer and the children have a few in their drawers. While I might not know how we acquired so many of them, I know some great things to do with them.
Flags
Bandannas make great flags. You can sew them together to create one large solid or colorful flag, or allow children to create small flags and wave them during a parade or while playing. Another great new use for a plastic straw is as a flag pole.
Quilts, Blankets, etc.
Sewing together several can make a nice summer blanket for your child, or their doll. You can also use bandannas the same way you use quilt squares.
Clothing
If you are skilled at creating clothing for yourself or your children, sewing together several of the same color, or even a unique array of colors can create some very pretty dresses, skirts and tops. Look for patterns and have fun with it.
Head Covering or Headband
You can either tie the bandanna around your head, or roll it into a long roll and tie it. Either way, it’s a great way to keep the wind from blowing your hair all over the place. You can also use them to tie ponytails. And the best part is, its totally in style now.
Bandages
For wounds that won’t stop bleeding, a clean bandanna can be applied with some pressure to help stop the bleeding. It can also be tied in place so it stays where you want it.
