Feeling distant from your spouse lately? Are you both so busy that you only seem to meet in passing and the idea of a conversation is more like a quick question quiz on how your day was, what your plans are and where you are going to be tomorrow? If you’re like most couples, your problem isn’t that you are fighting – in fact, you’re hardly around each other long enough to fight much less connect in a manner that promotes growth and unity.
The following are 5 ways to reconnect, even when you’re crazy busy and you feel like you are coming and going at the same time.
- Share Coffee/Breakfast every morning – make it more than a habit – this simple ritual of starting the day off together and spending 15 minutes just being together can open the door to conversation, communication, intimacy and connection
- Lunch together once a week – this is a great way to spend quality time one on one, especially when you have kids. If you’ve got little ones, see if a grandparent or neighbor can keep them for the hour you’re going to lunch with the spouse
- Share the Laughter- Talking more in email than in person? Write down the details of what you need to share with your husband or wife, but save the funny stories for in person and make the time to tell them – even if it’s over the phone because laughter opens both of you up to deeper connections
- Reassess Priorities – We all get busy from time to time, but if you are chronically too busy to connect, it’s time to sit down together and develop an action plan that puts you both back on track – together
How do you reconnect with your spouse when you’re both busy?
