Updating Your Status Too Much or Not Enough: If you update your status so much that you flood fans’ newsfeed they will make no bones about hiding your updates. If you are hidden then you lose your reach. If you do not update enough you will lose fans and quickly be forgotten about. Believe me, there are enough pages in line waiting to take your spot. A constant flowing presence is essential but go over that and you will not been seen and go under it and you will not be seen. The point is to be seen. Update your status at least once a day but three times is best.
Using Other Pages to Self Promote: I know you sell the best widgets in town but littering other people’s pages with it is rude. If your product applies and you do it sparingly then you will be in the clear. However, if every introduction is a commercial you will be deleted. It’s called “social’ media not “advertise every chance I get” media. Fans and other page owners are savvier then ever so allow you to sell yourself not a faceless commercial.
Get Too Controversial: Stand your ground. Be you. But lay off running your mouth. Unless your business if offending others you may want to lay low and save the controversy for your personal page. You may think what you are saying will ring true with your customers and fans but may unintentionally put them off. We have all been there and it is not worth the result.
Island Syndrome: You are busy. Your business cannot run by concerning yourself with Facebook all day long. You may not have the time to come up with creative updates but still need the fan base to increase your online business sales. What are you to do? If you are an online business or one which makes a profit through online sales then a Facebook page will serve you well. Yet, if you only visit your own page and do not involve yourself with other pages or businesses in your field then you will never reach your Facebook potential. Facebook works best when you cross promote and work as a team with other businesses and pages. This sounds like a lot of work and it isn’t easy but if you devote a few hours a day to social media it can increase your sales and exposure to your brand.
