Okay, I have finally recovered from my 15-hour Oscar telethon Sunday and now that it is all over (Yeah, Martin Scorsese!), we must talk about one of the most important aspects of the Oscars – Fashion!
There was no Bjork to wear a swan suit this year, but that does not mean some of the outfits did not stink up the red carpet. To be fair, I will let you know what the viewer poll at People magazine said as well:
The Ugly
Kirsten Dunst
Personally, I thought she looked like she borrowed her grandmother’s gown. The color did absolutely nothing for her either. Apparently, People voters agreed with me because 66% said they hated it as well.
Anne Hathaway
Beautiful girl, beautiful hair, beautiful dress, ugly bow! Without that huge bow in the front, Anne would have looked glamorous. Even if the bow had been a different color, I could have handled it, but the black on cream was just horrible. 71% of People voters agreed, saying they hated it.
Meryl Streep
Bless her heart, Meryl is the most nominated woman in Academy history, so I have to cut her some slack, but honestly! She told us she was a size 14, but I know Queen Latifah is as big if not bigger and she was able to find a decent gown. The black dress looked like a robe and the jewelry – was that from a flea market? Oh, just terrible! Seventy one percent of People voters hated it.
Nicole Kidman
That’s right, I said Nicole Kidman. One of the most beautiful women in the world, she could normally wear a paper sack and look like a million dollars. I love the dress – without the bow or whatever that was on her shoulder. If someone had clipped that off, I could have loved it. People voters disagree with me – 61% of them loved it.
Jennifer Hudson
Oh yes, I saved one of the most atrocious fashion faux pas for last. I know she is new to Hollywood, I know she is young, but please – did she not ask someone’s opinion when she put on that ugly gold lame jacket? It looked like a space suit! Once she removed it, I thought she looked nice. People magazine just totally avoided talking about the space suit, but instead asked viewers about the beaded Roberto Cavalli dress she changed into after the ceremony. That was beautiful – why didn’t she wear that for the red carpet? Eighty one percent of voters loved the beaded gown.
In the next blog, I will cover The Beautiful – those that made the walk down the red carpet look elegant and effortless.
