Moms- Sticking Together

Being a mom is an around the clock job. Certainly it’s a rewarding job, but it can be exhausting and even stressful. Mom’s need to get away every now and then and have a time of refreshing. I know some moms who play Bunko every week and others who get together with their friends and work on their scrapbooks a couple of times a months.

Spending time with other moms is a great source of refreshment and strength. Every few weeks a couple of friends come over to my house. The kids all have a great time playing together. The older ones watch out for the younger ones, giving us moms a break. We drink tea, we chat, we ask each other advice and we pray together. These meetings are very informal. The only preparation is a couple of phone calls to say when we are meeting.

I recently visited the web site of Lisa Whelchel. You may remember her as Blair, from the TV show “The Facts of Life”. She is a wife and a home schooling mom now, and she has set up a ministry that encourages moms to get together. On her web site it says,“Momtime is a group of moms who meet weekly in a home to encourage one another, learn from each other’s challenges, and most of all, be refreshed through laughter. The four key elements of a MomTime meeting are Friends, Food, Faith and Fun. These four f’s are the ingredients for a happy mommy.”
Visit Lisa’s web site to learn more about Momtime, as well as the books she has written on the topic of motherhood. Prepare to be encouraged!

Getting together with friends can be as informal as meeting at the playground or it can be a weekly organized time. I would love to hear from other moms on this topic.
Do you make time to spend with friends?
Is it scheduled or spontaneous?
What do you do together?
How does this time affect you as a mom?

Please share your thoughts so that other moms, including me, can get some creative ideas for spending time together.
