If you’re anything like me, your smartphone has become a third arm. Of course, I feel like I can justify this because I have a son in the military. But the truth is that it would be attached to my side anyway.
So why not make good use of it? It already allows me access to my email, Facebook, the weather and so much more. I might as well see if it can help me lose weight.
A new study finds that a standard weight loss program can be more effective when you incorporate your smart phone. With so many apps to choose from (and many of them free), it allows you to keep track of your progress, personalize your goals, count calories, make healthy selections and so much more.
The key to being successful with using a smartphone is that you don’t have a personal trainer breathing down your neck. Yet you are still being held somewhat accountable and receiving valuable feedback.
Apparently in this study, it was found that those who used their smartphone lost an average of 8.6 pounds more than those who didn’t. And they also lost about 5 percent of their body weight.
One of the other benefits to using your smartphone is that you aren’t spending a lot of money. When you take advantage of free or low-cost apps, it is more appealing.
It’s also safer than attempting the “latest and greatest” weight loss drug or undergoing invasive surgery. Losing weight by reducing calorie intake, eating healthier and exercising is the healthiest way.
