Craft: Terracotta Pot Snowman Ornament
Age Recommendation: 5 and up
Supervision: Moderate
Prep Time: Minimal to Moderate
Difficulty: Easy
Expense: Under $5.00 per ornament
Supplies:
- terracotta pot (a size small enough to hang on your tree or a size fit for a mantle or other display area of choice)
- White acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Orange acrylic paint
- Acrylic paint in your choice of colors for scarf
- Pipe cleaner in color of your choice
- (2) pom poms in color of your choice
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Optional Supplies:
- Google eyes (instead of black paint for eyes, but you will still need it for the mouth)
- Mini black pom poms (in place of black paint for mouth)
- Glitter
- Clear shiny coat
- Felt (for a fabric scarf)
- Orange pipe cleaner (for nose instead of orange paint)
Directions:
- Make sure your terracotta pot is clean and dry before you begin.
- Paint the terracotta pot white. You may paint the edge white as well since white as a base will make colors brighter or more true to color. Then allow to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
- Decide if you will use any of the variations or paint to make your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you decide to use any of the variations, such as google eyes, pipe cleaner (for nose), or felt for the scarf, you will need to hot glue the items on. If you are using paint, then begin by painting the face.
- The edge of the pot is used for the scarf. Paint a design or solid color. As suggested, you can use felt or even ribbon to add more texture.
- Once you have completed the painting or gluing of the face and scarf it is time to make the ear muffs. Simply cut the pipe cleaner to size. Before cutting bend it over the pot to measure, keeping the position of where the pom poms will be. Then glue a pom pom to either end of the pipe cleaner. Then position the ear muffs on the snowman so that enough of the pipe cleaner is above the pot so you can hang from a tree.
