McDonalds New Menu Items (Wendy’s and Burger King, Too)

McDonalds New Menu

McDonalds New Menu Items

McDonald’s has some new menu items, and so do its competitors. There is a big push this month to get people coming into the restaurant with more variety and better pricing. In this economy, even fast food restaurants are concerned. Many families are choosing not to eat out as often, and that includes eating at McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants.

In 2013, I am making an effort to make sure that our family stays purposeful when it comes to eating out. I’d like to eliminate those too tired to cook moments, as well as the don’t have anything in the house moments by getting organized and creative in the kitchen. Will the new menus change my mind and maybe yours?

Here is what is happening.

McDonald’s is testing a new menu item called “Mighty Wings” that is hopes to debut at all of its restaurants soon. These chicken wings are being served in select locations in servings of three, five or ten pieces. No new sauces will be available. Currently, you can only get them at one of 500 McDonald’s restaurants in Chicago.

Prices for chicken wings have risen, 26 percent higher in December 2012 compared to December 2011. A McDonald’s spokesperson said that whether the wings are offered to everyone or whether they are here to stay as a permanent part of the menu will depend on whether or not McDonald’s can get the chicken at a reasonable price.

Burger King, now a major competitor of McDonald’s doesn’t want to be left behind. Just recently, it launched a huge menu expansion that included fruit smoothies, speciality coffee drinks and new snack wraps. That is not all. On the 2013 Burger King menu will be two different molten fudge deserts, a new Whopper with avocado and swiss cheese and chicken nuggets cooked in a tempura-like batter and made with all-white meat. The nuggets will be served in four, six, 10 and 20-piece servings starting at a cost of $1.00.

Wendy’s is launching a new “Right Price Right Size” campaign and a new value menu. As ingredients such as meat and cheese rise, Wendy’s wants to give its customers a choice in affordability. Customers on a budget can choose smaller less expensive options, while allowing Wendy’s to keep on track with rising prices and premium item choices. This means that there will be some higher prices for traditional Wendy’s menu options.
