Make your own pizza dough, pop it in the freezer and have it available any time you like. The best part? You’ll be saving tons of money over the year in pizza costs, and with pizza dough from your freezer, you can make enough to cover everything from a busy weeknight meal to a kid’s birthday party. Now that is economical!
Freezing this pizza dough recipe actually make the dough easier to work with, so you will make perfectly round pizzas with no tearing each time. You can also work the dough into a square pan or a rectangular jelly roll pan for a traditional “square” Sicilian pizza. Add sauce, cheese and toppings, pop it into the oven and voila, your done.
I’ve also divided the freezer pizza dough four ways to make personal pizza. This is great for families, since it gives each person a chance to make the pizza any way they like. Don’t be surprised if kids ask for strange toppings, such as m&ms on their pizza!
This freezer pizza dough recipe is optimized for a bread machine or bread maker.
Into your bread machine put:
1 cup of warm water
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons of salt
3 cups of bread flour
Male an indentation in the flour and place 2-1/2 teaspoons of bread machine yeast (or active dry yeast).
Set your machine for the dough cycle and press the start button. When the dough cycle is completed, knead the dough about 10 times on a lightly floured surface. Wrap up the dough in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag. Freeze immediately. To thaw, take it out of the freezer and place in the refrigerator the night before. It can stay refrigerated for about a week. Warm on the counter 30 minutes before you are ready to make your pizza.
Yes you can freeze pizza dough!
