It is interesting to watch a person learn to walk. That is one of my favorite parts of child development. It is such a huge milestone to see your child take those first steps. I love it.
My daughter walked just a couple of days after her first birthday. I just couldn’t believe how quickly she progressed from that first baby step, to full blown walking everywhere.
My middle child walked a few days before his first birthday. And, his walk was hilarious. He would hold one arm out to the side and sway it back and forth wildly, while the other was down by his side. We dubbed it the “zombie walk” because he looked just like a zombie that was trying to figure out how to walk. He would also laugh hysterically while he did it kind of like he was thinking, “I can’t believe I’m doing this!”
My third is not walking yet. He is 13 months old. So, he is my latest walker. It’s funny how he just wants to be different in every way from his siblings. I am not in a hurry for him to walk. He is just taking his time and that is fine by me. But, I have to say that I get so excited with all the things that are happening to get there. He will definitely be walking soon. Recently, he has started to let go of us and just stand for a few seconds. He gets so proud of himself, but if he sees something he wants, he quickly drops to the floor and starts crawling to get there fast.
Learning to walk is a lot like learning to parent. Sometimes, for a final goal to be achieved, we just have to let go. It might be scary at first, and we might be a little wobbly as we do it, but sometimes, that is what is needed for our kids to become their best selves. We will see over this next month how this little guy progresses and if he finally decides to take his first steps.
