What If We All Showed Love for God and Neighbor?

Another question that was posed in our relief society lesson on Sunday that really stuck with me was, “What would the world be like if everyone showed love for God and Neighbor?” One mom raised her hand and said something along the lines of, “I would not live in fear anymore. I wouldn’t be scared to drop my kids off at school everyday. There would be no fear.”

As I sat there thinking about that, I couldn’t help but think, “What would MY life be like without fear?” It was an interesting thought.

As a parent, we can’t help but feel fear. And, in my own case, my worries and fears have increased dramatically since I have become a parent. Some of those fears are warranted, and some aren’t. It’s difficult to sort through the two. I have blogged before about my fears and worries when it comes to raising kids in this life.

But, what IF everyone put loving God and loving their neighbor as the first great commandment? Our world would be so different.

There would be no anger, no greed, no evil. There would be no arguing, no grudges, no hate. There would be no need to one up each other, and no fight for being the richest, or the best at something. You would have lots of people surrounding you always willing to help and serve. Life would be easier in a lot of ways.

But, the point of this existence is not for it to be easy. It is for us to learn and grow. And, there has to be opposition in all things. And, while I love the idea of living in a world free of all the bad and full of God’s love, I know that the learning experiences that we really need come from learning how to show love for God and neighbor when life isn’t perfect.
