Thanksgiving is family time. In previous years, you may have celebrated this holiday with plenty of family members. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it unsafe for large groups of people to gather together indoors. How will you keep the kids entertained while dinner is being prepared? Here are a few ideas to try.
Thanksgiving Coloring Pages
Gather up the crayons and print out some Thanksgiving themed coloring pages from the internet. Crayola.com offers some free Thanksgiving coloring pages for parents to download for their kids. Another option is to buy a large sketchbook and give each child a few pages that they can draw on. Give them the opportunity to use their imagination.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
This year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade will look a bit different than before. Changes have been made in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The parade will air on NBC on Thanksgiving morning, but the route will be shortened. There will be colorful floats, giant balloons, and Santa Claus. Everyone participating in the parade must be 18 or older. There will not be a crowd this year, in favor of having a “television-only special presentation”.
Let the Kids Help
Children who get bored will need something to do. Many kids enjoy helping the grown-ups with dinner. A young child can be asked to count out the right number of napkins, or to alert an adult when the appetizers are getting low. Older kids can carry a basket of bread rolls to the table.
Watch Movies After Dinner
For the first time, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will not be on TV. Apple TV+ will launch the movie on November 18, 2020, and it will be available for free from November 25 until November 27. Parents can also choose to watch movies that are family favorites.
